Senior Project 5

3/22/11
time spent: 3 hours
total time:9 hours

action- My mentor, 2 other workers from KAI, and I chose the t-shirt design. I made letters to all the participants to thank them for participating. We discussed where we are going to get the food and activity materials for the walk.

next action- My mentor and I will meet up to make letters to food companies, asking to sponsor us and donate food. We will also make letters to companies that can supply us with materials for some activities.

How am I doing?
I don't know how i'm going to reach my goal because I have been at 75% for a very long time. I guess I just have to be patient and send emails to more people and ask them to sponsor me or join the walk. I can't wait for the next upcoming meeting with all of the KAI staff. They can get more involved with all the planning that my mentor and I have been doing. The a little bit more than a month away so we have a lot of time. I feel like we are very prepared and on top of things.

Senior Project 4

3/16/11
time spent: 2 hours
total time: 6 hours

action- My mentor and I were looking through all of the t-shirt designs and chose the top 3. We will vote between the top 3 along with a few other people to make decisions easier. We also talked about the song list and the activities that I chose for the walk.

next action- I will meet again with my mentor and a few other people from KAI to choose a t-shirt design and make future plans and meetings. I also have to get more people to sponsor me so I can reach my goal.

How am I doing?
I made 75% for my $300 dollar personal goal. I have sent more emails to more people, asking to sonsor or join the team and now i'm just waiting for their responses. I also recruited so much people and my mentor said i'm doing a great job :D I'm getting stressed out with all this planning and college stuff but I am learning to balance my time, although this is getting very tough. I have not sent my thank you letters yet but i'm probably going to do it after the walk so I have much mroe to say and tell them about how the walk went and the outcome of it.

Senior Project 3

date of service: March 3, 2011
Time spent: 1 hour, 30 minutes
total time: 4 hours

action- I went to the meeting and we talked about our plans and activities for the Walk and the new contest for designing the shirts for our team

next action- send emails about the shirt design contest and deadline for signing up for the walk, find activities and make a list of good songs to play at the Walk, and finding more people to sponsor the team or joining.

How am I doing?
The meeting was not scary at all. The leader for the Kai PHARMACEUTICAL team introduced me and I felt welcomed. The meeting was not boring which was good. I'm very interested with what we have planned for the Walk and I am so excited! I can't wait for upcoming meetings. This project has been easy so far because I have been getting a lot of people to join the walk and I am very close to my personal sponsor goal of $300. I need to send thank-you letters and start on my t-shirt design.

Senior project 2

March 1, 2011 Time spent:2 hours Total time: 2 Hours, 30 minutes

Action: -Made an email about the NKF walk and sent it to my relatives
- set up dates for meetings with my mentor

next action: There will be a meeting on Thursday with KAI Pharmaceuticals and my mentor

How am I doing? Writing the email was personal because I wrote about my grandmother who is currently waiting for a kidney. It took me awhile to find the information I put into my email about the disease. Overall, I think my email is very convincing. I just hope that people will participate. I want to reach the goal of $7, 500 dollars and hopefully I can help make that happen. On thursday there is going to be a meeting and I am nervous because I am going to be the least experienced person there because I am young and I do not have a job. We'll see how it goes.

Senior Project 1

February 19, 2011 Time Spent: 30 minutes Total Time: 30 minutes

Action: -convinced people to join the National Kidney Walk
-planned kick-off meeting for the NKW with mentor

Next Action: Send an email to inform people about the NKW and convince them to support.

How am I doing?
The walk is on May 7 and I am very worried that all the preparations for the event will not be done on time. I am also worried for the senior project due date because my project event is late compared to others. The company that I am working with (KAI Pharmaceutical) will be having meetings to discuss this event and other future plannings. So far, I have been trying to recruit people to support and it is a struggle because they have to be committed if they actually agree do join.

I FINALLLLLLY FINISHED THE BOOOOOK! WOOHOOOOO!!!

It's a good book!

The chapter that starts on page 164, was very confusing at first. They were talking about a misanthrope and how he only loved inanimate objects. I did not understand how it ties in wit hthe story but towards the end of the chapter it talks about how he is a psychic and peopel come to him for answers and how he can grant wishes. Then as I was reading page 173, and she says "My eyes...I want them blue." Then I realized it was Pecola. After reading this book I think she deserves it. She had to lie with her father raping her and getting her pregnant and her abusive mother who never believed her. The chapter before the last chapter is about Claudia and Freida selling seeds to people in order to get a new bike. They would ring on doorbells and get invited inside and tell Pecola's story. I don't get why they would do this then all of a sudden tell each other that they will pray for Pecola's baby to live and pray for Pecola. They also said they were going to give up their new bicycle and bury the money they earned so they can let God know they were being serious about it. IT was a sudden switch. But I think it was sweet of them to do it. In the last chapter it's just a conversation between two people but it seemed unreal liek a dream. I think it was Pecola as if she had blue eyes but I don't know who the other person is. Then it foes back to a narrator and tells us how no one can even look at Pecola anymore. She is also poor looking through garbages. This is a sad story. What's the moral of the story? I think it's that we should appreciate what we have because others have it ten times worse and nothing gets better for them.

Because Cholly was raised by his aunt, he never had a father figure. His father left his mom and his mom left him. So On page156, Cholly went searching for his dad and when he finally find him, his dad says, "Something wrong with your head? Who told you to come after me?" Cholly says, "Nobody." And later on, Cholly says," Tell that bitch she get her money. Now get the fuck outta my face!" This is really sad. This led to his epiphany to be "free to be tender or violent, to whistle or weep. Free to sleep in doorways or between the white sheets of a singing woman...He could go to jail ad not feel imprisoned, for he had already seen the furtiveness in the eyes of his jailer...Free to take a woman's insults, for his body had already conquered hers." On page 161, he explains how he rapes his daughter(Pecola).
